Eco-kids prove they are authors too

Published by Samantha at 1:38 pm under News Edit This

Earlier this week, a kindergarten class in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, were recognized as ecologically-responsible young writers.

The kids, from Oak Park Elementary School, were announced as the Grand Prize winners of Scholastic’s Kids Are Authors contest in the “Going Green” category. Their book, Our Class is Going Green, was written and illustrated by them (with the help of a couple of teachers) and will be featured at Scholastic book fairs across the United States. It offered tips from the kids on how to be environmentally conscious, such as wearing more clothes rather than turning up the heat. Each of the young authors will receive a copy of their book, a medal and a framed certificate. The school will receive a voucher for $5,000 worth of products from Scholastic.

The contest, open to kids in kindergarten through to eighth grade, also offered prizes in the “Fiction” and “Non-Fiction” categories.
