Samuel Johnson Prize shortlist released

The forerunners for the Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction, awarded yearly to the best work of the genre released in the UK, were released today. The shortlist is:

  • Blood River: A Journey to Africa’s Broken Heart - Tim Butcher
  • Crow Country - Mark Cocker
  • The Whisperers - Orlando Figes
  • The World Is What It Is: The Authorized Biography of V.S. Naipaul - Patrick French
  • The Rest is Noise - Alex Ross
  • The Suspicions of Mr Whicher Or The Murder at Road Hill House - Kate Summerscale

The winner of the prize, now in its 10th year, will be awarded £30,000 at a ceremony on July 15th. French’s book, a biography of novelist and essayist V.S. Naipaul, is the current favourite to win.
