Spring is here and, if you’re like me, that means you’re itching to go outside and take in a literary festival or two. Over the next couple of days I’ll post some festivals that are coming up. Let’s start with the UK:

Guardian Hay Festival
May 22 - June 1
Hay-on-Wye, Wales

Now in its 21st year, this renowned literary festival features such authors as Augusten Burroughs, Jhumpa Lahiri, Salman Rushdie and Julian Barnes. Workshops and musical entertainment are offered too.

Borders Book Festival
June 19 - 22
Melrose, Scotland

Over 5,000 people attended the 2007 festival, one of Scotland’s most popular. Ali Smith, Ian Rankin and Katharine Whitehorn are some of the writers in attendance.

Broadstairs Dickens Festival
June 19 - 22
Kent, England

This is a festival Charles Dickens fans everywhere. For four days, Dickens-related readings and performances will take place, as well as Victorian-themed events.

Have fun!
